Sound symbolism refers to sensitivity to non-arbitrary correspondences between word forms and meanings. “Bouba-kiki” or “maluma-takete” effect – an association of the word “bouba” or “maluma” with round shapes and the word “kiki” or “takete” with spiky shapes – has shown to be robust across cultures and writing systems. Our aim is to study whether the sensitivity to sound symbolism in infancy is linked to emerging vocabulary skills.
